Inextensible Networks with Bending and Twisting Effects
نویسنده
چکیده
Families of inextensible fibers forming a surface are considered. Each fiber supports a twisting couple proportional to the torsion of the fiber. The strain energy density is written in an additive form, such that the contributions due to shearing, twisting and bending effects are taken into account separately. The equilibrium equations, here obtained, are a particular case of the ones obtained by Luo and Steigmann in [1].

Twisting, Tearing and Flicking Effects in String Animations
String-like objects in our daily lives including shoelaces, threads and rubber cords exhibit interesting behaviors such as twisting, tearing and bouncing back when pulled and released. In this paper, we present a method that enables these behaviors in traditional string simulation methods that explicitly represent a string by particles and segments. We offer the following three contributions. F...
متن کاملConformational Analysis of Stiff Chiral Polymers with End-Constraints.
We present a Lie-group-theoretic method for the kinematic and dynamic analysis of chiral semi-flexible polymers with end constraints. The first is to determine the minimum energy conformations of semi-flexible polymers with end constraints, and the second is to perform normal mode analysis based on the determined minimum energy conformations. In this paper, we use concepts from the theory of Li...
متن کاملThe effects of lifting speed on the peak external forward bending, lateral bending, and twisting spine moments.
Lifting tasks that involve twisting have been repeatedly implicated as contributing to the onset of occupational back injuries in epidemiological studies. The objective of this work was to quantify the three directional external moments acting on the spine during a sagittally symmetric and two asymmetric lifting tasks. A total of 15 subjects participated in the three lifting tasks. All tasks we...
متن کاملDirect Position-Based Solver for Stiff Rods
In this paper, we present a novel direct solver for the efficient simulation of stiff, inextensible elastic rods within the PositionBased Dynamics (PBD) framework. It is based on the XPBD algorithm, which extends PBD to simulate elastic objects with physically meaningful material parameters. XPBD approximates an implicit Euler integration and solves the system of nonlinear equations using a non...
متن کاملConformational Dynamics of Mechanically Compliant DNA Nanostructures from Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics Simulations.
Structural DNA nanotechnology, the assembly of rigid 3D structures of complex yet precise geometries, has recently been used to design dynamic, mechanically compliant nanostructures with tunable equilibrium conformations and conformational distributions. Here we use coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations to provide insights into the conformational dynamics of a set of mechanically compli...
